A message for parents and guardians from Cheri Ashby, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Activate Learning.
I hope that you’re well, and I would like to extend a warm welcome to you as the parent or guardian of a student beginning their journey with us at Activate Learning.
We understand that starting at college can be both exciting and a little daunting, so we want to ensure you have all the key information to support your child during this important time.
Importance of promoting good attendance
Regular attendance is crucial to your child’s success at college. We encourage you to support and promote good attendance habits to ensure your child benefits fully from their educational experience. Missing classes or being late can have a significant impact on their progress, and we want to work together to minimise any disruptions to their learning.
As of Monday 30 September, we will be implementing an automated email system to keep you informed of your child’s attendance. If your child is marked as absent, you will receive an automated notification both in the morning (after 11:15am) and afternoon (after 4:15pm) to ensure you are kept up to date, in real time. This will allow us to work more closely with you to address any issues affecting their attendance or punctuality.
If your child is due to be absent, please report this by calling us on 0800 612 6008 and selecting Option 2. Or alternatively, emailing attendance@ActivateLearning.ac.uk
Safe Students, Safe Staff, Safe Spaces
To ensure a safe and respectful learning environment, all students are expected to follow our Code of Conduct.
A key part of this is wearing their lanyard on campus for safety and identification reasons. It is important that your child brings their lanyard each day and is worn visibly. Please help your child to remember this each day they are in attendance.
Support for your child
We want all our students to feel safe, supported and cared for while studying with Activate Learning.
We offer a range of support services to help your child thrive both academically and personally. These include career guidance, mental health and wellbeing support, and additional learning resources. If your child feels they need extra help at any point, encourage them to reach out to their tutor or one of our student support team.
We are also running a series of webinars around World Mental Health Day to inform parents and carers about the support available to students across our colleges.
If you would like to attend one of these sessions, please book on via the links below:
- Tuesday 8 October, from 10-10:45am –
- Tuesday 8 October, from 4:30-5:15pm –
- Thursday 10 October, from 1:30-2:15pm –
We value open communication with parents and guardians. Throughout the academic year, you will receive updates regarding your child’s progress and initiatives. If you have any questions about their course or progress, please contact their tutor first.
We appreciate your support and cooperation in helping your child have a successful and productive time at college. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your attention to these matters.
Warm regards,
Cheri Ashby
